The form of a Tibetan stupa is a rich architectural symbol, consisting of shapes & colours of the 5 elements – earth, water, fire, air & space. They are arranged in order of subtlety from earth at the base, ascending to space at the top. Stupas often fulfil an important role in Buddhist funerals.
